Our Lives

Those who brng sunshine into the lives of others cannot keep it from themselves - a quote from James M. Barrie

Hiking down into Oak Creek Canyon

So last week on Jay’s day off, we went up to Flagstaff (I-17 to 89A) and headed back down the scenic route through Oak Creek Canyon and to Sedona.  At the top of Oak Creek Canyon, there is an overlook where we stopped and enjoyed our picnic lunch.

There is a hudge bridge that goes across part of the canyon before you get to Sedona that has parking and some hiking trails.  We stopped there and took the “Huckabee” trail down the canyon and to the river.

It is rated difficult on the path maps, but it really wasn’t too bad.  Coming up was a bit tiring, but not too bad, we just took our time.  Unfortunately, I had forgotten my camera.  The temp was in the 90’s but once we got down into the canyon and in the shade by the river, it was very comfortable.  I would say about 15-20 degrees cooler at least.

Once we got down there, we crossed the river on some rocks and a makeshift bridge someone placed.  We didn’t know but there was another river.  It was quite rapid and abutted the sheer canyon wall.  We sat on some rocks and just enjoyed the solitude.  Then some other hikers came by on their way back up.  They stopped and we chatted for quite awhile.  They told us that if we had continued the trail further down the river and across the second river the trail leads all the way through to the village of Oak Creek (which is just south of Sedona)

We weren’t really prepared for a hike, so next time……  We will be sure to have our packs for hiking with extra water, etc.  We did have a blast, though.

After we got back up the canyon we went on to Sedona, did a little looking around, had dinner and headed for home.  On the way out of town, we stopped at this one shop that carries all kinds of southwestern stuff.  We bought two lizzards to put on our privacy wall outside.  They look great!  We had a good day.

This week on Jay’s day off, we are talking about doing an overnighter to Globe to check out some more ruins.

Back to our Michigan Trip

Mike and Connie’s wedding - really beautiful. The Chapel was amazing! It was at St. Johns Inn in Plymouth. This place was really unique. It used to be a Catholic Seminary. It’s now an Inn and banquet center. The Chapel is set up so that the pews face the center isle because as a seminary it was used as a classroom.

The bride was radiant (of course) and the groom broke down as soon as he saw her coming down the isle.

Sharon looked beautiful as the mother of the groom. Her dress was the prettiest color of green. I am posting some photos on the photo album page.

We sat at a table with Joe and Pat, Virginia, Caleb and Amber, Linda and Dan (I think that’s his name, oops). Joe and Pat are getting ready to move to Sedona. They are going to build a house once they get here. The DJ was really good, the food was great, the company was fantastik, over all a very good evening.

I am having some trouble uploading images right now directly to the blog for some reason, keep getting an error message.

Caleb and amber were at the wedding too, which was great. I got some great photos of them too.

Lots to talk about

I appologize to all you regular readers that it has been so long since my last posting. Too much going on lately and I have fallen very far behind.

I haven’t forgotten about Michael and Connies wedding. That is coming soon. I still haven’t finished the Michigan trip.

We had a great visit with Caleb and Amber last week that I also want to share…..

But first I want to wish my brother Ron well, and a speedy recovery from his rare bout of Guillain Barre Syndrome. We will continue to pray for Ron, and ask that everyone else does too. This is a dibilating illness that can last for months - even years.

Ron, you are in our prayers and we all know that God is with you.
