Our Lives

Those who brng sunshine into the lives of others cannot keep it from themselves - a quote from James M. Barrie

Oops - upgrade glitch!

Well I found a glitch from when I upgraded my software and completed the steps to put Our Lives into the root directory of otlewski.net.

It didn’t occur to me that the links in all the old posts would not change along with the upgrade, so if there is a link within a post to another page in the blog (for example, to the photo album or slideshow page) it won’t work.  Easy way to get around that, just go directly to the page and find the photos there!

 Sorry!

Finally

We finally found it.  We have been trying different ones since we moved here 19 months ago.

What have we been looking for?  A church.  Why was this so hard?  Because we kept comparing every church we tried to our church in MI - Orchard Lake Church.  We had so many great memories of that church.

That church used to move us to tears with their services nearly every Sunday.  We kept remembering the great friends and great adventures the kids had with their Youth Groups and Sunday School.  All the mission work, the work camps all the soup kitchens and homeless shelters.

These experiences really taught the kids about compassion.  About caring for others.  About fellowship.  About diversity.  About understanding it isn’t all about them.  I like to think that they both are better people for it.  I hear their stories every time I talk to them and can see what they learned and are putting to practical use in their lives.  I don’t think they even know it or recognize it, but I know……

So back to our search here.  There were some pretty big shoes to fill with the criteria we set.  We found it would be impossible to duplicate our churchlife in Michigan, because the kids are no longer kids and they aren’t around to go with us anymore.  Even though we still got the same out of Orchard Lake Church long after the kids went with us….  We were making friends and enjoying the fellowship.

But we found a church here that is traditional.  With traditional hymns and music.  No drop down screens so you actually get to use your bible and the pew hymnal.  The members are so warm and friendly that right away we felt right at home.  The pastors are great - they have three and they are all great preachers.  The only drawback is there are no kids because of where it is located.  No younger people who add so much energy to a church.  Also, because of the age of the members, (I assume this is why) they don’t seem to actively participate in local, national, or international mission work, but they do support many financially.

So the important thing is that we found a church home where we can grow and practice our faith.  God has been so good to us our entire lives, and it feels good to get back to worship, praise and thank Him.
