Our Lives

Those who brng sunshine into the lives of others cannot keep it from themselves - a quote from James M. Barrie

Sorry Jen - Happy Birthday!

So I thought I was sooooo smart, I had a really busy weekend scheduled last week and Monday, so I thought I would write Jen’s happy birthday entry ahead of time so I didn’t forget in all the mayhem and set the date to publish automatically on the 21st.

Well, little did I know that my database was going to go down (did anyone notice my site was down for a couple of days?).  I didn’t even notice it was down until Tuesday.  I just fixed it yesterday.

So here is the post that Jen was supposed to get in her honor:

Yet another happy birthday!

This one’s for Jen

Happy Birthday to YOU

Happy Birthday to YOU

Happy Birthday to Jen

Happy Birthday to YOU!

 Have fun in Michigan!

I figured it out!

So I was saying that I was trying to figure out how to create a page in WP without columns displaying…..

Well, I did it!  Check out Jay’s blog page

Pretty cool!  I think that PHP would be pretty easy to learn.  It’s really all just logic and I think I am pretty logical….  Yes?

On another subject, I had to redo this post a couple of times because this stupid editor they use adds all kinds of code to your code!  Now I remember one of the reasons I wanted to upgrade the software.  They fixed this problem in the upgrade.  Guess I’ll have to bite the bullet.

The Irony

So, I mentioned that I updated Jay’s WordPress software version.  I did it mostly so that he could easily bring in rss feeds right into his blog.  Well, after I did that, and one of the functions wasn’t working, I did some research and found out that the next WP version was in beta. WP has been telling me for a while that I needed to upgrade the software, but not for that long.

So anyway, I started adding some of the new plugins that I wanted on the blog and went to the admin tool (mind you this is just 3-4 days after I updated everything) and the admin is now saying that Jay’s version of WP is outdated.  Please update now!

Obviously, they didn’t test the beta for too long, so I think I will wait and see what the forums are saying before I go to the trouble of making a backup of the database, and all the files, then delete all but 3 files from the old version and upload the new version.  Too much trouble unless I know it will be good.

When I upgraded Jay’s blog to this version, it took me 4 hours to get the site so it would show up.  I was getting pretty nervous.  I haven’t upgraded this one.  Think I’ll wait on it too.

What’s Up?

Sorry about the long absence.  We really have been pretty busy.  In fact right now I am in the middle of cleaning and am simply taking a break.

Life is good.  We joined the church and have made a bunch of friends there.  We are really having a blast with them.  After church on Sundays, we go to breakfast, and we are trying to get together once a month as a group for dinner/socializing.  Great fun!

We are now in the monsoon season, and this morning is garbage day.  So I wanted to go out early to trim some plants so the branches and such would be carted away today.  Thinking it wouldn’t be too hot this AM, I headed out.  I got it done, but let me tell you, there was no “dry heat” today.  With the monsoons here, we have gotten very humid!

Joe and Pat came down from Sedona the week of the fourth, and we went to a D’backs game.  What a great game.   We were getting our butts kicked and then the bottom of the 9th the d’backs came out of nowhere and won the game!  Yeah!

I had to upgrade wordpress again, so did Jay’s blog.  We did a new theme.  Check it out:  The Valley Blog.  We like the way it looks, but I need to figure out how to create a page without the columns so we can bring in his podcast and the search for homes from his new idx solution.  It took me 2 days to do all this.  I still need to add some plugins that I found to help enhance some of the functions that we need on the blog.  Check it out and let me know what you think.

I also downloaded a bunch of new themes to play with.  How do you like this one?

Till later, Lynn
