Our Lives

Those who brng sunshine into the lives of others cannot keep it from themselves - a quote from James M. Barrie

Great Excitement!

WE MADE OUR FIRST SALES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks to everyone who has been sending emails out.  We really appreciate that effort.  Pat sold a necklace right off her neck!  She wore one she really hadn’t planned on selling out to dinner and the hostess at the resturant loved it.  Joe told her that Pat made it and that she sells her jewelry, so the hostess wanted to buy it!  And the matching earrings.  Pat felt funny selling one she had worn, so she made an identical set.

Well they say things happen in threes which I believe.  Sunday, Pat sold a necklace and earrings off our online shop!

So Joe and Pat were down here this week.  They came down on Monday night and the guys played golf on Tuesday AM while Pat and I scoured some bead stores and had a great time!  Anyway, while they were here on Monday night, I sold the Bleeding Heart necklace I had on the site.

 Wait, there’s more…

The hostess was at the resturant at the golf club that Joe and Pat belong to and the club has a showcase at the entrance where they often feature local artists.  Well, Pat asked about us having some space in the showcase and they said YES!  We get a shelf for 3 months!  Pat took two of my pieces home with her on Tuesday, and will put two of hers in the case as well.  How exciting!

Thanks to those of you that passed along my email - we are on our way!!

Thanks again!

Linked in

So, I finally joined Linked In.  Actually I was signed up once before but never did anything with it.  Then I received a request from an old business partner, so decided to fill out a profile and see what happens.

Some of you will probably receive a request to link up, as soon as I figure out how to do that!

Monsoon Hiking

Okay, here is the slideshow for the monsoon hike.

It’s a little long, I suggest you use the arrow key to skim through instead of letting it play.  Do read some of the captions though, it will give you a good idea of what went on that day!

rss feed

Well, I didn’t have to upgrade my wordpress this weekend, I noticed that I had an old file on the server called “feed.xml”.  Since my URL for my feed is:  http://otlewski.net/feed/, that may have been the problem.  The standards for feed files has changed since I wrote the old file, so maybe the rss was looking for a file called “feed” and found the old one.  I have no idea why that would suddenly happen, because the it used to work, but if the standards JUST changed again, maybe that through it off…. don’t really know, but it seems logical.

Anyway, I deleted the old file off my server and not my feed works, so has to be some sort of connection.

Updating my wordpress

Jen just informed me that my rss feed isn’t working.  I hadn’t even noticed!

I just compared all the relevant files to one of our other blogs that work, and can’t see anything missing, so I’m not sure what the problem is.

I have been wanting to upgrade my wordpress on this blog for awhile, so I will do so this weekend and see if that helps.  I certainly hope so!

The great adventure

pine-070.jpgWell, its been awhile since I posted anything about our adventures.  Yesterday we had a great one!  We went up to an area in the Cococino National Forest near Pine and did some hiking.  We found a very remote hike into a canyon.  The trail was almost undisernable.  It was great.

The trail followed a stream and we crossed back and forth all along the canyon to the spring from which it originated.  The spring was basically a cave where the water was pooling and then gently dropping into the canyon to form the stream.  The water was so clear, it was like perfect crystal.  The air coming out of the cave was cool and refreshing.

Along the way we saw big cat prints in a mud puddle from a morning shower that were about the size of my palm.  We also saw Elk tracks and droppings that were as big as a wet towel wadded up on the floor!  It was pretty neat.

We also saw a rock that looked like a lions face, beautiful flora, ferns, aspen, ponderosa pines, unusual bugs, birds and all kinds of things from nature.  It was great, and so quiet except for the birds and the babbling brook.

Once we reached the spring and finished our lunch, we noticed some storm clouds building, so we tried to decide what to do.  Mind you, we were in the canyon with no where to seek shelter… the cave was full of water.  So we waited under the little bit of overhang for a few minutes while it started to sprinkle, but decided we just had to go for it and get back to the car as quickly as we could if it started to storm.  Well, we barely got 20 feet away from the spring and the storm let loose.

The downpour was unbelievable, in typical monsoon fashion, the sky just opened up.  There were so many lightning strikes with thunder clapping as soon as the lightning flashed - in other words, it was right on top of us!  Fortunately, we carry ponchos in our backpacks so we quickly put them on.  Then we put our heads down and ran for our lives!

Now, mind you, it took us nearly 2 hours to get to the spring.  We do stop and take a lot of pictures.  The hike information says it is about 3 miles to the spring from the trailhead.  We booked back to the car in about 40 minutes!  Let me tell you, we are in much better shape than we thought!

The worse part was when about half way through the canyon the monsoon thunderstorm turned into a monsoon hail storm.  It hailed so hard that it stung!  The hail kept getting bigger and bigger.  At it’s worse the hail was about the size of marbles.

I have to tell you that I was scared $%^#less!  I honestly said the Lords Prayer all the way through the canyon.  The water was running in the path, the stream was rising - the temperature dropped about 30 degrees - it was something.

Well, we obviously made it back to the car, but I gotta tell you, the next time Kali Okelly says there is a chance of monsoonal storms throughout the day… we stay home!

I will post pictures so you can see how beautiful this canyon was….  Hopefully tomorrow.
